석진: 안녕하세요. 경은 누나.

경은: 왜 그렇게 말하세요?
Why are you talking like that?
석진: 오늘 주제가무엇인지 아세요?
Do you know what today’s topic is?
경은: 오늘 주제 뭔데요?
What is today’s topic?
석진: 바로 공포예요.
Straight up fear.
경은: 공포. 석진 씨는 무서워하는 거 많이 있어요?
Fear. Seokjin are there many scary things?
석진: 저도 알고 보면 무서운 게 많은 사람이에요.
If I understand there are lots of things that scare people.
경은: 뭐, 예를 들어서?

석진: 저 사실 어두운 거 되게 무서워해요.

경은: 그래요?

석진: 어두운 데서 혼자 가는 거 되게 무서워해요.
Being alone in dark places is scary.
경은: 그래요?

석진: 네.

경은: 사람들이 석진 씨를 무서워할 것 같은데?
People seem to be scared?
석진: 밝은 데 가면 아마 사람들이 절 무서워할 것 같은데요, 어두운 데 가면 제가 잘 안 보이잖아 요. 그러니까 사람들이 절 무서워하지도 않고 그리고 제가 어렸을 때, 불량배를 몇 번 만났 어요. 특히 어두운 데서. 그래서 좀 어두운 곳이 좀 무서워요.
In well lit places maybe people are really scared. But for me in dark places you can’t see well. So, some people might not be really afraid and when I was young a few times I ran into a gang of bullies. Especially in dark places. That is why I am a little bit afraid of dark places.
경은: 신기하네요. 보통 여자들은 어두운 길을 가는 것을 무서워하는데 남자들이 그러는 건 처음 봤어요, 저는.
That’s interesting. Usually girls seem to be afraid of dark streets and this is the first time I have met a guy like that.
석진: 남자들도 어두운 곳 무서워하는 사람들이 있어요.
Even though we are men there are some people who are afraid of dark places.
경은: 그래요? 석진 씨, 혹시 고소공포증 이런 거 있어요?
Really? Seokjin, possibly do you get vertigo?
석진: 고소공포증 좀 있는 것 같아요.
I kind of have a fear of heights.
경은: 고소공포증이 뭐죠?
What is vertigo?
석진: 높은데 올라가면 괜히 자기가 떨어질까 봐, 그런 무서움을 느끼는, 그런 현상이잖아요.
When I am high and I am going up for some reason it seems like I will fall, it’s a scary feeling, you know it is a phenomenon.
경은: 조금 있어요?
Do you get a little bit of vertigo?
석진: 그런데 번지 점프는 아마 할 수 있을 것 같아요.
Yes but I think I could bungee jump.
경은: 고소공포증이 있는 사람들은 번지점프를 못하지 않나요?
I thought people with vertigo can’t bungee jump?
석진: 남자니까, 남자니까 할 수는 있을 것 같아요. 뛰어내릴 수는 있을 것 같아요. 안전장비를 다 하고 있으니까. 누나, 롯데월드나 에버랜드 같은데 가면 높은데서 떨어지는 그런 기구가 있잖 아요. (네, 있죠.)그런 거 타 보셨잖아요.

경은: 저는 사람들이 내숭이라고 뭐라고 할 수 있는데, 이건 진짜인데요. 저는 벌레가 세상에서 제 일 무서워요.
Because some people are wicked they can do anything, it’s true. And most of all I am afraid of bugs.
석진: 벌레 무섭죠.
Yeah bugs are scary.
경은: 그렇죠. 무섭죠.
Right. Scary.
석진: 내숭이 아니죠.
Not wicked.
경은: 그런데 그렇게 말하는 사람 있어요. “내숭떤다고.”
But there are people like that, they talk meanly [………]
석진: 집에 가면 막 손바닥으로 바퀴벌레 막 잡고.
If I am at home I just catch cockroaches with the palm of my hands.
경은: 보통 여자들이 벌레를 싫어한다고 하면 남자들이나 아니면 다른 사람들이 집에 가서는 벌레 를 막 잡으면서 밖에 나와서 이렇게 나와서 내숭을 떠냐고 하는데 정말 저는 벌레가 저를 잡 아먹을 것 같아요. 너무 싫어요. 벌레가.
Normally girls say they hate insects if there is a man around or another person at home the bugs come and they just grab them and go outside this way the wicked leaves, but really I tend to catch bugs. I really hate them. Bugs.
석진: 어렸을 때 물려본 적이 있는 거 아니에요?
When you were young were you ever bitten?
경은: 어렸을 때 그렇게 나쁜 경험이 있었던 것도 아닌데요. 그냥 벌레 그 자체가 싫어요. 징그럽지 않나요?
I have a bad experience like that from when I was young. I just hate insects. Aren’t they creepy?
석진: 징그럽죠. 바퀴벌레 같은 건 정말 징그럽죠.
Right they are creepy. Cockroaches are really creepy.
경은: 그래서 너무 싫어요. 벌레에 대한 그런 공포. 약간 좀 공포라고 하기엔 좀 그렇지만 다른 사람 들보다 유난히 싫어하고 무서워하는 건 있어요.
That’s why I hate them. I have a fear about bugs. It’s a small fear however, I unusually hate and am afraid of bugs more than other people.
석진: 그래서 집에서 이제 바퀴벌레 나타나면 어떻게 하세요?
So what do you do when a cockroach comes out at home?
경은: 도망가죠. 그래서, 옛날에는 언니랑 같은 방을 썼어요. 그래서 언니가 항상 벌레를 잡아줬었 는데 지금은 혼자 방을 쓰니까 벌레가 만약에 나타나거나 그러면은 도망가요. 그냥. 그리고가족들이 올 때까지 기다려요.
I run away. So, a long time ago I used the same room as my sister. So I would always get my sister to catch insects for me. Now I use a room by myself so if a bug comes out I just run. And I wait until my family comes.
석진: 그러면 살충제 있잖아요. 스프레이처럼 뿌리는 그런 살충제가 있어야 될 것 같은데요.
But there is insect spray. You have to have something like spray.
경은: 있는데, 그것도 그냥 싫은 거죠. 무서우니까.
I do, although I just hate bugs. They are scary.
석진: 그렇군요.

경은: 그리고 저는 무서운 영화를 못 봐요.

석진: 그래요?

경은: 옛날에는 그런 영화를 봤었는데, 요즘에는 악몽을 꿀 때 그런 영화보다 더 무섭게 꾸는 경우 가 많아서 저는 무서운 영화도 싫어해요.
Long ago I watched scary movies, but these days if I when I watch a scary movie I have scary nightmares and also there are lots of scary situations in movies that I hate.
석진: 꿈 얘기가 나와서 말인데요, 정말 현실처럼 그렇게 느껴지면서 무서웠던 그런 꿈 꾼 적 있으 세요?
You’re saying the movie comes out in your dreams, really that’s like a reality of life. To feel like that and be afraid, have you dreamed like that?
경은: 저는 워낙 많아서, 그래서 공포영화를 볼 필요가 없더라고요.
Naturally there was a lot times, so I learnt that I didn’t need to watch horror movies.
석진: 그렇군요.
Really.
경은: 근데 보통 그렇게 공포라는 공포증, 고소공포증 같은 것들이 여러 가지가 있잖아요.
But usually fear, phobia, vertigo those type of things are various.
석진: 그렇죠.
Right.
경은: 제가 듣기로는 뾰족한 물건을 못 보는 사람들도 있잖아요. 그런 공포증도 있다고 하더라고 요.
As I know there are also people that can’t watch sulky things too. I’ve learnt that that is also a phobia.
석진: 피를 못 보는 사람도 있어요.
And people also who can’t look at blood.
경은: 네. 피를 못 보는 사람들도 있고, 굉장히 다양한 그런 공포증이 있다고 들었는데요, 여러분들 은 혹시 그런 공포증을 가지고 있는 게 있는지 궁금한데요. 그러면 여러분들 석진 씨처럼 솔 직하게 이야기해 주세요.
Yes, people who can’t look at blood. I have heard there are lots of various phobias. I’m curious whether perhaps everyone has a phobia. If everyone can speak frankly like Seokjin for me.
석진: 사실 저 경은 누나도 무서워요.
Truthfully Kyeongeun is also afraid.
경은: 저기요.

석진: 그리고 여성분들 어두운 길에 혼자 가는 것 정말 무서워하는 거 저 알아요. 그런데 가끔가다 가 어두운 길에 제가 뒤에 가고 있고, 여자 분이 앞에 가고 있는 그런 상황에서 그 여자 분이 저를 힐끔 쳐다보고 도망가는 경우가 있어요.
And girls, going down dark streets alone is really scary, I know. However, sometimes when I am going down a dark street and I am behind and a girl in front. In that situation the girl steals a glimpse and runs away in that circumstance.
